The first edition of Chocolat Festival Portugal, which took place in the cultural district of WOW, brought together prominent personalities and brands from the industry.
From October 20th to 23rd, 2022, the first European edition of the International Chocolate and Cacao Festival captivated the attention of some of the industry's leading figures, who confirmed their presence in Gaia to attend and participate in the festival.
Adalberto Luís, president of the CEQAQ-11 cooperative responsible for planting new trees to prevent soil erosion in cacao-rich São Tomé and Príncipe, made the journey. Chantal Coady, president of the Academy of Chocolate Awards, traveled from the United Kingdom to experience the festival. Spencer Hyman, founder of Cocoa Runners, also made the trip from the UK.
Other prominent voices in the world of cacao and chocolate joined the event, including María Jiménez from the Netherlands, Clay Gordon from the United States, César De Mendes, an environmental activist and cacao researcher from the Amazon in Brazil, Helen López, director of ChocoMad from Spain, and Julia Zotter from Austria's Zotter Schokolade.
On an international scale, Chocolat Festival Portugal introduced and showcased some leading chocolate brands and cacao-related products. Among them were Arcádia (Portugal), Casa Grande (Portugal), Douro's Flavours (Portugal), Feitoria do Cacau (Portugal), Maria Chocolate (Portugal), Taylor's (Portugal), Vinte Vinte (Portugal), Kankel (Spain), Dolfin (Belgium), Tasse (Belgium), Callebaut (Belgium), De Mendes (Brazil), Mestiço Chocolates (Brazil), Chocoleyenda (Ecuador), FBM (Italy), Packint (Italy), and Lareka (Netherlands). Other entities, such as The Cacau Club, were also present at this inaugural European edition of the event.
Visitors to the festival enjoyed performances on the Cacao Stage and attended lectures at the Cacao Forum. In the Kids' Kitchen, the youngest attendees got hands-on experience with chocolate. There were also a series of Workchocs by the Vinte Vinte Academy held during the event."
